Real Techniques do the best synthetic brush range I’ve ever come across. I already touched base on their permanent collection here but this duo fiber set is limited edition. This set is made of two different Taklon blends. The handles are white with a gloss finish vs their original color coded matte handles from the permanent range. The bristles themselves are super soft to the touch and feel lovely against the skin. There are a bunch of mixed reviews on these but I think people are expecting so much of them and really don’t know how to use them properly. If you use duo fibre brushes they’re made to pick up minimal amount of product. The white bristles pick up the product and the black shorter bristles do all the blending once you apply a bit of pressure to brush. So I thought I’d share what I’ve been using each brush for . . .
1. Duo Fiber Face Brush – This is the biggest brush from the set and I’ve been using this everyday with my La Mer loose powder to set my base. You can also use it with pressed powders such as blushes, bronzers etc. You get a light application which is great for those days you don’t want to faff around with a full on makeup look.
2. Duo Fiber Contour Brush – I like to use this with powder and cream products. It blends product seamlessly leaving you with a nice light finish. It is a great shape and size to contour with but don’t limit its uses!
3. Duo Fiber Eye Brush – I use this to define the crease for everyday eye looks. I have also used this with my YSL Touche Eclat Concealer to blend under the eye area.
I would say that this set is for a more advanced makeup wearer. If you’re expecting heavy-duty brushes you might want to consider their permanent range for people who like a heavier coverage day-to-day. If you’re the minimalist and like fresh light layers this might be a good set to invest in. I love it and get over how gorgeous they are! It’s priced at $20 and I purchased them at my local Ulta (they do coupons as well). If you haven’t heard Sam is finally teaming up with her sister Nic to release new brushes, I’ve been a fan a Pixiwoo for a very long time and I’m so happy for them! Kudos for this set, definitely a yay.
