The Routine

Does Packaging Influence Your Purchases?

C’mon you know it does! The Holidays are just around the corner and out come all the holiday-esk collections. I have to say that I’m partially torn on this one guys. . . I tend to gravitate more chic, grown up packaging like Chanel or Burberry. I think it looks gorgeous on your vanity or peeking at you through  Muji drawers! Collections that are chunky and bright tend to push me away although what’s inside is what should count the majority of the time. I’d have to say my favorite packing of all time is Burberry Beauty. Ughh, it’s just so hefty, magnetic, sleek and the embossment! *Drools. I know I’m going to get a lot of shit for this but I haven’t purchased anything from a M.A.C collection in years! One, there are so many releases I can’t keep up with. Two, The tacky packaging is just too much of an eye sore for me. That Wonder Woman collection M.A.C released reminded me of my kids plastic tumblers and I just couldn’t deal with it all over my Instagram feed!

Then again I do own a lot of drugstore items and half the time the packaging is decent so it doesn’t necessarily have to be high-end in order to consider it “pretty”. I love attention to detail and another pet peeve of mine is dirty packaging! I clean my makeup at least once a month so I don’t have a panic attack when and if I see finger prints all over it (alcohol pads are always nearby). I hate it when I watch tutorials and someones palette has powder everywhere or their foundation is crusted along the pump, ewww yuck! If my foundation is more expensive than my tank of gas you better believe it will look its best. I hate when lettering rubs off or packaging gets scratches, I like to preserve the quality of my packaging at all times.

So I guess packaging does sway me a bit. If its something that will get too messy I’ll stay away. If it’s  bulky or chunky no can do for me. If its super tacky, has bows, or has a Disney character on it I won’t even waste my time unless the makeup itself is something really worth having. When I purchase an item my mind already starts thinking if the packing is practical for everyday use or simply the pros and cons of the item. I love giving an entire breakdown on the things I review, it’s how my mind works. If I’m paying $80.00 for an eyeshadow palette it also better come gift wrapped! Does anyone else go through this or is it just me and my blogger problems?

  1. Me me me!!! Yes! It’s nice to put take out something from your purse that looks pretty and nice. And expensive brands packaging and most of the time the quality of the products is the best. You know what they say you get what you pay for that usually is with higher end brands. But lately I’m lurking on my beauty gurus channel on YouTube or blogs for updates and reviews before purchasing anything especially the high end ones. You are so right about mac. But I did bought 2 sets of their collection this year brushes and eye set. Thank you for your honesty and I’m pretty sure almost a 100% will agree with you. 🙂

  2. Nice packaging will make me buy a good product but never justifies for a bad one. Alternatively, I will skip on a good product if the packaging is bad, too ugly, cheaply made, etc. xx
