Your Perfect Red For The Holidays

Is there such thing as a perfect red for me? The issue at hand isn’t the color, it’s simply finding the right undertone for your skin shade. The holidays are right around the corner and what better way to celebrate it than rockin a bold red lip! There are so many girls that go through the daunting issue of trying to find the right one, I mean lets face it red lipstick doesn’t really come with a manual. Reds come in all different shades and finishes which can be a bit intimidating but don’t let that discourage you! Wearing red lipstick is very empowering and it makes you feel like a woman, it’s one of those things that makes you feel that much more grown up. So how do we determine our correct shade of red? Well I have a few tips that might help. Jouer Cosmetics offer a little quiz you can take to determine what type of skin tone you are and at the end is your perfect red lipstick shade. Not too many sites do this, hell I haven’t come across one yet to be honest and I think it’s a wonderful start for beginners. I ended up with Simone (wearing above) which is a blue undertoned shade and I absolutely adore it! The finish isn’t too glossy nor drying that it will cause my lips to crack. Jouer lipsticks contain moisturizing properties so I never feel that its stripping or uncomfortable for me.

So first lets determine your skin tone! Warm, Cool or Neutral? Hold up your arm and look at your wrists. If your veins are purple or bluish then you’re cool. If your veins are look more olive then you’re warm. If you can’t really tell then most likely you’re neutral.

Porcelain: cool undertones look best with a cool red with hints of plum, but also looks great with a warm red.

Biege: This skin color with yellow undertones is looks best with cool reds, but you can find the occasional orange-red too.

Olive: Warm reds look best on this skin color with green undertones, but cool reds are just as good. You kinda get the best of both worlds.

Caramel: Cool reds are wearable but warm reds are gorgeous on this skin tone.

Almond: Warm reds are nice but cool reds are meant for you.

Just remember to have fun with it and always look at the shade under natural lighting if possible, you don’t want to walk out of that room looking like a clown! I really suggest taking the test you see below if you don’t know where to start, I really wish something like this existed when I was going hunting for my big red (horrible memories are starting to clutter my thoughts).

  1. Red is such an intimidating color for most, especially gor girls with darker skin tone. If I could describe my complexion it would be (think BECCA tinted moisturizer) Sepia. Is that neutral? This was a fun read, looking forward to reading more posts!

  2. Love this! I spent years just assuming that I couldn’t pull off reds. I finally found the perfect shade last year (it’s a Maybelline Vivids shade). I could have used this advice years ago!

  3. I’ve been on a well-document search for the perfect red. But I think I’ve come to realize that there is no such thing as 1 perfect red, but instead, there is a perfect red for a specific occasion or feeling. Or that’s what I tell myself since I now have many that I adore and wear!
