Every painter needs a smooth canvas to create a work of art, same philosophy applies to makeup. Let me start out by saying I have combination skin (oily T-zone and normal everywhere else). I’m not a huge primer wearer but I do have days where I want my foundation to stay put. Now primer for the eyelids is totally different story, nothing will stay put If I don’t use an eyeshadow primer. For the eyes my must have HG base is the Nars Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. This stuff works like no other and is a staple in my everyday makeup routine. I have the oiliest eyelids and without primer my eyeshadow will look a hot mess in a matter of minutes. I’m not too fond of the applicator or packaging, it’s a pain in the arse to get out but you only need a tiny bit. It goes on white but once blended its pretty much colorless. For foundation primer I’ve literally tried every primer out on the market and have found that only two brands work for me. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer is mineral based and water-resistant which is great for the summer time. It contains an SPF of 15 and is a bit pricey. Luckily I have several deluxe samples that there is no need to empty the bank account on this stuff. It creates a smooth base for foundation to adhere on and works great. Laura Mercier Primers I find to be hydrating and good for everyday use. I have the regular, mineral, and radiance formulas. I find the regular version works well with liquids and creams whereas the mineral is perfect for powder foundation. The radiance primer is great if you want glowy skin due to the shimmer in it. I use it as a liquid highlighter or if I want to pep the skin up ill mix it in with my foundation. Primers aren’t for everyone but I believe there is one out there for you!
